Employers that hire people with a record, Detroit - any advice?

A few employers in Detroit say they hire people with a record, including a manufacturer and a warehouse. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. The HR contact was kind and direct. Any other leads?

Be honest, brief and forward-looking when you talk about it. They care more about what you did since.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
