Distribution centre hiring near Detroit - what worked for you?

A distribution centre near Detroit is holding hiring sessions this week for packers, pickers and forklift operators. This is my first time dealing with any of this. They said to bring ID and a work history, and some people were hired on the spot. Do they hire temps first?

Ask whether the job is direct hire or through an agency. The pay and benefits were very different for me.
