City government openings this month - what worked for you?

The city and county near San Diego both posted administrative and maintenance openings this week. I worked as an administrative assistant before this. Hiring is slower than private jobs. Do they prefer local residents?

It took me about two months from application to offer. Apply early and keep your contact details current.
