Apprenticeship openings for electricians and welders - any advice?

The training centre near Portland opened applications for apprenticeships in electrical and welding trades. I have been trying to stay organised about it. Applications close in 25 weeks. What do you wish you had known?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 10 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
