Transit passes and rides for job seekers - any advice?

The bus takes almost an hour to reach the places hiring as a security officer. I am in Wichita, in case local advice matters. I can walk part of the way. What do you use?

Our transit agency has a reduced-fare pass for people with low income. The application took a week.
