Simple budget for a tight month - what worked for you?

I am $650 short each month and trying to find it. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I listed needs and wants and cut a few subscriptions. Did lenders work with you?

Check for energy assistance programmes. I got a credit that covered two bills.

A paper list of bills by due date helped me more than an app. I could see the month at a glance.
