Recommendations for free job-search tools (update)

I need a résumé template that passes automated screening. It has been a long 19 weeks. A spreadsheet with dates and follow-ups worked a little. Are there tools to avoid?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 3 months ago, and it got easier once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
