Recommendations for free job-search tools (Providence)

I need a résumé template that passes automated screening. I am in Providence, in case local advice matters. A spreadsheet with dates and follow-ups worked a little. Are there tools to avoid?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
