Places that helped me after losing my job - what worked for you?

A neighbour pointed me to a programme that I wish I had known earlier. Any experience at all would help. A food pantry near me has evening hours. What else is out there?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
