Places that helped me after losing my job - any advice?

A neighbour pointed me to a programme that I wish I had known earlier. I am in St. Louis, in case local advice matters. A food pantry near me has evening hours. What else is out there?

I found free tax help through a community volunteer programme. It saved me a fee.
