Phone and internet help for people out of work - what worked for you?

I am worried about keeping my phone and internet on during my search. I am in Pittsburgh, in case local advice matters. I heard of low-cost plans for people with limited income. What did you switch to?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.

Libraries lend Wi-Fi hotspots in some towns. Mine lent one for three weeks.
