Phone and internet help for people out of work - what worked for you?

I am worried about keeping my phone and internet on during my search. I am in Jacksonville, in case local advice matters. I heard of low-cost plans for people with limited income. What else should I consider?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
