Phone and internet help for people out of work - any advice?

I am worried about keeping my phone and internet on during my search. Any experience at all would help. Some applications need a computer. What did you switch to?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
