Phone and internet help for people out of work - any advice?

My home internet costs more than I can manage on unemployment. I am in St. Louis, in case local advice matters. Some applications need a computer. What did you switch to?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
