Phone and internet help for people out of work - 5 months and counting

I use my phone as my only connection. Any experience at all would help. I heard of low-cost plans for people with limited income. What did you switch to?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
