Mental health while out of work - what worked for you?

I am trying to look after my mental health while I search. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I do not want to pretend I am fine. How do you ask friends for support?

I told two friends how I really felt. It was uncomfortable, but it made things lighter.
