Keeping my phone on while I search - what worked for you?

I am worried about keeping my phone and internet on during my search. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I heard of low-cost plans for people with limited income. What did you switch to?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 10 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
