How do you handle bills on unemployment? (update)

We are a household of 10 and the budget no longer works. I am in Honolulu, in case local advice matters. The rent is fixed and the car payment is high. What helped you?

I called each lender and asked for a hardship plan. Two agreed to lower payments for a few months.

Check for energy assistance programmes. I got a credit that covered two bills.
