How do you handle bills on unemployment? after 11 years as a mechanic

My income is now a fraction of what it was as a mechanic and I am trying to cover the essentials. I am in Raleigh, in case local advice matters. I listed needs and wants and cut a few subscriptions. What helped you?

I called each lender and asked for a hardship plan. Two agreed to lower payments for a few months.
