Getting to interviews without a car in Chicago - what worked for you?

I need a cheap way to get to several appointments. Any experience at all would help. I do not want to be late.

Our transit agency has a reduced-fare pass for people with low income. The application took a week.

I planned routes the night before with a trip planner and left twenty minutes early.
