Does anyone have tips for local transport to interviews? - what worked for you?

The bus takes almost an hour to reach the places hiring as a web developer. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. I can walk part of the way. Are there discounted passes?

I planned routes the night before with a trip planner and left twenty minutes early.
