Does anyone have tips for local transport to interviews?

I need a cheap way to get to several appointments. I am in Charlotte, in case local advice matters. I can walk part of the way. What do you use?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 11 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
