Childcare while job hunting, what worked? - what worked for you?

I have 5 kids and I need to interview and work without a sitter. I worked as a call-centre agent before this. I looked into subsidies but the forms are long. Is there an emergency option?

Our county's childcare assistance took about 24 weeks to approve, but it covered most of the cost.
