Childcare while job hunting, what worked? (update)

The daycare near me wants more than I can pay. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. A neighbour offered help but not every day.

Ask the school about after-school programmes. Some are free or based on income.

Libraries and community centres run free activities that gave me a couple of hours.
