Childcare while job hunting, what worked?, software tester here

The daycare near me wants more than I can pay. I worked as a software tester before this. I looked into subsidies but the forms are long. What worked for you?

Our county's childcare assistance took about 14 weeks to approve, but it covered most of the cost.
