Childcare while job hunting, what worked? (San Diego)

I have 4 kids and I need to interview and work without a sitter. It has been a long 20 weeks. I looked into subsidies but the forms are long. What worked for you?

I swapped afternoons with another parent. It took some planning and saved us both money.
