Childcare while job hunting, what worked? (Kansas City)

I have 4 kids and I need to interview and work without a sitter. Any experience at all would help. I am willing to trade favours. Is there an emergency option?

Our county's childcare assistance took about 9 weeks to approve, but it covered most of the cost.

I swapped afternoons with another parent. It took some planning and saved us both money.
