Childcare while job hunting, what worked? - any advice?

The daycare near me wants more than I can pay. I do not usually post, so bear with me. A neighbour offered help but not every day.

Libraries and community centres run free activities that gave me a couple of hours.

I swapped afternoons with another parent. It took some planning and saved us both money.
