Childcare while job hunting, what worked? - any advice?

I have 16 kids and I need to interview and work without a sitter. I looked into subsidies but the forms are long.

Libraries and community centres run free activities that gave me a couple of hours.

Ask the school about after-school programmes. Some are free or based on income.
