Childcare while job hunting, what worked?

I have 6 kids and I need to interview and work without a sitter. I am willing to trade favours. Is there an emergency option?

Our county's childcare assistance took about 23 weeks to approve, but it covered most of the cost.

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
