Childcare while job hunting, what worked? - 14 months and counting

The daycare near me wants more than I can pay. Any experience at all would help. A neighbour offered help but not every day. How long did subsidies take?

Our county's childcare assistance took about 9 weeks to approve, but it covered most of the cost.
