Budgeting tips when income drops - what worked for you?

We are a household of 4 and the budget no longer works. I would rather hear the honest version than the polite one. I listed needs and wants and cut a few subscriptions. Did lenders work with you?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
