Best tools for tracking applications? - what worked for you?

I need a résumé template that passes automated screening. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I want reminders to follow up. Are there tools to avoid?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It made the follow-up calls so much easier.
