Best tools for tracking applications? after 3 years as a paralegal

I am looking for free tools that do not spam me. There are 3 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. A spreadsheet with dates and follow-ups worked a little. Are there tools to avoid?

Use a plain one-column résumé with standard headings. Mine got more replies after I simplified it.
