Best tools for tracking applications? after 16 years as a nurse's aide

I am tracking my applications in a notebook and want something better. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I do not want to pay for premium features. Are there tools to avoid?

Use a plain one-column résumé with standard headings. Mine got more replies after I simplified it.
