Best tools for tracking applications? - 21 weeks in

I am looking for free tools that do not spam me. There are 4 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I do not want to pay for premium features. Any good templates?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it last year, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.

A simple spreadsheet with company, date, contact and next step was all I needed.
