Affordable childcare options in Kansas City - any advice?

My hours will change when I find a job and childcare is my biggest worry. I am in Kansas City, in case local advice matters. A neighbour offered help but not every day. Is there an emergency option?

Our county's childcare assistance took about 4 weeks to approve, but it covered most of the cost.
