Worth paying for a certificate? - what worked for you?

A local college offers a course that costs $850. I do not usually post, so bear with me. I am unsure whether employers value it. Did a certificate help you get hired?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.

A hands-on course with a project helped more than a purely online one.
