Worth paying for a certificate? - what worked for you?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as an event coordinator. I have been trying to stay organised about it. I would like to use funding if possible. Is there free funding?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
