Worth paying for a certificate? - what worked for you?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a bank teller. I am unsure whether employers value it.

A hands-on course with a project helped more than a purely online one.

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
