Worth paying for a certificate? - what worked for you?

I am considering a short certificate to improve my chances as a mechanic. I am in Fresno, in case local advice matters. I would like to use funding if possible. Which ones are overrated?

Check a dozen job postings first. If most ask for the same certificate, it is probably worth it.
