Worth paying for a certificate? (update)

I saw that many postings ask for a specific certification. There are 18 people counting on me, so I am trying to be careful. I am unsure whether employers value it. Did a certificate help you get hired?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
