Worth paying for a certificate? (St. Louis)

I saw that many postings ask for a specific certification. This is my first time dealing with any of this. I am unsure whether employers value it. Did a certificate help you get hired?

The workforce centre told me about training funds I qualified for. It covered most of my course.
