Who do I ask for a reference after a layoff? (update)

Jae Isaksson · 2026-05-17T18:04:31.283Z

I worry a reference will only confirm dates of employment. It has been a long 2 weeks. HR only confirms titles and dates. How do you ask politely?

Keep everything in writing and save the confirmation numbers. It saved me later.
