Who do I ask for a reference after a layoff? after 16 years as a graphic designer

I worry a reference will only confirm dates of employment. Thank you in advance. A colleague offered to vouch for me.

Ask former colleagues and supervisors in a short message and give them a summary of the job you are applying for.

Use a professional network to find a former manager. Many will still write a note.
