Weighing a contract offer against waiting (update)

I got a contract offer for 12 months as an accountant and I am unsure whether to accept. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. The contract could extend.

If savings are low, I would accept and keep applying. You can leave for a permanent role if one appears.

I took a contract and it converted after four months. The time also kept my skills current.
