Weighing a contract offer against waiting - first time posting

A permanent role may come up, but the contract starts now. I have been trying to stay organised about it. The contract could extend. What would you do?

Thanks for writing this out. I went through something close to it 7 months ago, and it settled down once I kept a simple log of every call and form.
