Weighing a contract offer against waiting after 9 years as a bookkeeper

A permanent role may come up, but the contract starts now. I am in Austin, in case local advice matters. The contract could extend. Did a contract become permanent?

Buy coverage through the marketplace if the contract has none. I budgeted for it before signing.
