Weighing a contract offer against waiting after 8 years as a software tester

The pay is fair but there are no benefits. I have read a lot of threads here and could not find my exact situation. The contract could extend. Did a contract become permanent?

Buy coverage through the marketplace if the contract has none. I budgeted for it before signing.
