Weighing a contract offer against waiting after 16 years as a paralegal

A permanent role may come up, but the contract starts now. I do not usually post, so bear with me. The contract could extend. What would you do?

If savings are low, I would accept and keep applying. You can leave for a permanent role if one appears.
